What is epigenetics?

We’re born with a fixed set of genes but how those genes behave is influenced by how we live. Epigenetics is the science that studies how your lifestyle, environment, and daily choices affect gene expression, turning them up or down like a dimmer switch. Your DNA is the blueprint. How does epigenetics work?

At the core of epigenetics is a natural process called DNA methylation — where enzymes known as DNA methyltransferases (MTases) attach chemical groups (called methyl groups) to specific spots on your DNA. This process doesn’t change your genetic code — but it does change how your genes behave . It can silence harmful traits, amplify protective ones, and directly influence your risk of disease, your rate of ageing, and your ability to recover and adapt. Your DNA never changes — but what it does can change everything.

 

What is biological age?

You have two ages. Your chronological age is how long you’ve been alive. Your biological age is how well your cells are ageing. It’s affected by your diet, sleep, stress, exercise, and environment. And it’s a far more accurate reflection of your true health than the number on your birth certificate. At MuhdoHub, our science team has mapped key genes and biomarkers linked to cellular ageing — giving you a real, measurable view of how your body is performing over time. We’re not chasing youth.
